EPC Cost Estimator I
Contract Duration: Until Aug 18, 2026 (High Possibility of Extension)
Location: Remote (Must work EST or CST hours)
Position Summary:
CMS Energy is seeking a remote EPC Cost Estimator I to support medium-complexity projects in the energy/utilities sector. Candidates must be able to work full-time hours aligned with the Eastern or Central time zones.
The role involves estimating responsibilities across various engineering disciplines and contract types, using cost databases, software tools, and standard industry practices. Candidates should bring analytical thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop accurate pricing using industry-standard guidelines and software tools.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and maintain daily usage of estimating tools.
- Prepare estimates by calculating detailed material, labor, and equipment costs.
- Analyze proposal specs and drawings to determine project scope.
- Attend meetings and coordinate estimation activities as required.
- Collaborate with Senior Estimators and maintain backup documentation.
- Interface with owners, A/E firms, and contractors to support project feasibility analysis.
- Break estimates into a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for clarity and tracking.
- Apply standard markups, contingency, and construction percentage guidelines.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience in construction cost estimating.
- Working knowledge of estimating disciplines: Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, I&C, Pipeline, and Storage/M&R.
- Experience in utility-based estimation (Substation, HVD, LVD preferred).
- Proficiency with cost estimating systems and computer-based data interpretation.
- Strong communication and organization skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate remotely with internal teams and stakeholders.
Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Equivalent work experience in estimating will be considered.
