Electrical Engineer I
Duration: Contract Until 12/31/2025, with potential for extension
Location: Jackson, MI 49201 (Hybrid –3 days/week in office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday),  Other office locations across Michigan may also be considered.
 
Job Summary:
As an Electrical Project Engineer within Consumers Energy's Gas Metering, Regulation, and Control (MR&C) Electrical, Instrumentation, and Control (EI&C) organization, you will be responsible for managing electrical engineering projects related to gas metering, regulation, and control systems. This includes designing and overseeing the installation of electrical systems, providing field support, and coordinating with internal and external teams to ensure the successful execution of projects.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Engineering and design of electrical systems, including power, lighting, temperature and pressure instruments, HVAC, electrical valve actuators, and SCADA equipment for site operations.
  • Conduct product and process research to support system design and improvement.
  • Provide technical support in the field during construction phases.
  • Draft and review technical specifications for system components and installations.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments including Operations, Supply Chain, Project Management, Project Controls, and others to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Communicate and coordinate with internal teams and external service providers, facilitating the successful execution of projects ranging from component replacements to complex station rebuilds.
 
Required Knowledge and Experience:
  • Expertise in electrical system design and installation for hazardous locations, including oil and gas facilities, in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and NFPA 70 standards.
  • Proficiency in designing and interpreting AC and DC electrical schematics.
  • Experience with the specification and application of digital pressure and temperature instrumentation.
  • In-depth knowledge of analog/4-20mA signals.
  • Expertise in SCADA/PLC system design and applications.
  • Experience with solid-state and electromechanical relays in control systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with MODBUS serial and Ethernet communication networks.
  • Knowledge of electrical valve actuators, solenoid valves, and electrical construction practices.
  • Ability to prepare bid packages, request for proposal (RFP) documentation, and evaluate contractor proposals.
  • Strong presentation skills for design and drawing reviews.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with project stakeholders, including mechanical engineers, information technology teams, project managers, and construction contractors.
  • Practical work experience in electrical work, equipment maintenance, or related construction fields is desirable.
