Position: Engineering Technician 7
Location: Overland Park, KS
Duration: 6+ Months with possible extension
Job Summary
• The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Engineering Technician 7, functions in a technical specialist/entry level supervisory capacity.
• In a technical design role, solves difficult technical problems, as well as provides consultation and training.
• In addition to design and production responsibilities, directs efforts of other engineering technician professionals as required.
Key Responsibilities
• Engineering Standards:
1. Communicate and may set appropriate design and graphic standards.
2. Reviews project requirements and accurately determines the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
• Quality / Continuous Improvement:
1. Promotes quality within project/group/section.
2. Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency.
3. Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards in force for the project.
4. May contribute to the continuous improvement of guides and standards.
5. May participate in and lead process improvement activities and assignments.
6. Responsible for drawing control and historical records, utilizing the appropriate method, as established by the project.
7. Demonstrates personal accuracy and drives continual improvement and change management efforts.
• Engineering Production:
1. Applies basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing complex design concepts and deliverables.
2. Applies judgment and makes decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
3. Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and can provide technical guidance to other professionals.
4. Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records.
5. May review the deliverables of others.
6. May coordinate the presentation, delegate production design, or other electronic applications.
7. May monitor production to assure consistency, budget, and schedule of the deliverables.
8. May program control systems or participate in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise.
• Project Coordination:
1. Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
2. May support field activities. Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
• Client Focus:
1. Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances.
2. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns.
• Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:
1. Assist discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities.
2. Identify training and development needs for personnel they supervise and may participate in training efforts.
3. Recognized for expertise in one or more areas.
4. May be assigned special assignments depending on technical expertise.
5. Assignments may involve solving a particular design problem or participating in a design team focused on completing an assigned project task.
6. Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.
• People Management - (supervision - career development - developing professionals, mentoring):
1. Typically assists with functions including performance management process, recognition, and corrective actions.
2. May participate in career planning and learning and development. Supervises engineering technicians, including mentoring, instructing, delegation of work and providing feedback.
• Resource Management - (staffing):
1. May monitor staffing levels and available skill sets for project(s).
2. May identify resource application needs and process requirements.
• Administrative:
1. May review timesheets, expense reports, assist with communicating the continual development of new hire recruitment, policy and procedure.
Minimum Qualifications
2. All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
3. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred. Bachelor’ s degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology (preferred).
4. Typically, a minimum of 11 years related work experience.
