Job Type: Contract till July 1, 2026, with high possibility of extension)
Location: Jackson, MI 49201 (Initial training required onsite;potential for reassignment within Michigan post-training)
About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Engineering Technician to join our high-performing Substation Design team. With an increase in project volume, we need someone who can support both engineering and contracting functions for the construction and modification of substations across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
You’ll work closely with internal teams (civil, instrumentation & controls) and external engineering consultants to ensure project alignment, documentation accuracy, and construction coordination.

You’ll work closely with internal teams (civil, instrumentation & controls) and external engineering consultants to ensure project alignment, documentation accuracy, and construction coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with layout and design support for substation projects across Michigan
- Prepare and manage construction scopes of work for external engineering firms
- Coordinate invoicing, tracking, and weekly updates for contracted projects
- Communicate with engineering consultants to collect deliverables and ensure timelines
- Participate in occasional site visits to align fieldwork with design intentions
- Provide support during construction by responding to technical questions and resolving issues
- Ensure timely project report-outs and status updates
Required Skills & Tools
- Prior experience in utility infrastructure or substation design preferred
- Proficiency in MicroStation preferred (AutoCAD experience will be considered)
- Familiarity with ProjectWise and SAP is an advantage
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, no scripting)
- Strong organizational, coordination, and verbal communication skills
Work Environment & Travel
- ~90% office-based work, with occasional travel (less than once a week) across the state
- Initial onboarding/training in Jackson, MI is mandatory
- Post-training, you may be assigned to a different service center based on business needs
