Job Description

Lab Technician I /Radiography Technician Assistant (Entry-Level)
Location: Jackson, MI (with extensive travel across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan)
Contract Duration: Through July 14, 2026 (Potential for Extension)
Number of Openings: 2

Job Overview:
We are looking for an Entry-Level Radiography Technician Assistant to join our team. This hands-on role will assist radiographers in conducting Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for various industries, including pipelines, industrial plants, and wind turbines. This position involves extensive travel across Michigan, including occasional overnight stays and unpredictable work hours. The role requires flexibility, as job assignments may change last minute, and there is potential for 7-day workweeks and overtime during peak seasons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) tasks such as radiography, visual inspections, particulate testing, pen testing, and bagging.
  • Travel daily to various locations in Michigan, from Jackson to cities like Traverse City, Bay City, and other sites across the Lower Peninsula.
  • Ensure work is completed in compliance with safety standards, particularly when working with radioactive materials.
  • Work alongside a team of technicians on-site, often traveling and working in remote locations.
  • Perform tasks in diverse work environments, which could include working at heights (e.G., scaffolding, wind turbines), confined spaces, or industrial plants.
  • Assist in calibration duties when not on NDT assignments, especially during slow periods (e.G., January-March).
  • Climb ladders, scaffolding, and perform tasks at elevated heights when required.

Ideal Candidate:
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
  • Strong math skills (basic algebra) are essential.
  • Previous technical or manual labor experience is a plus (e.G., factory work, farm work, calibration, or quality control).
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a fast-paced, field-based environment.
  • Comfortable with unpredictable schedules, including early mornings, late nights, and potential 7-day workweeks during peak periods.
  • Must be comfortable with physical labor, including ladder climbing, working at heights, and outdoor conditions (hot and cold weather).
  • Ability to travel frequently and sometimes be away from home for extended periods (up to two weeks).
  • Must have a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and in a team setting.

Additional Requirements:
Due to the nature of the work and involvement with radioactive materials, a more intensive background check is required for this position. This includes:
  • Drug Test: Candidate must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • DMV Check: Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be comfortable driving for work purposes. There may be instances where you will be required to drive client vehicles.
  • Background Check: A thorough check of education and employment history will be conducted.
  • Fingerprinting: As this role involves working with radioactive materials, fingerprinting is required after hire for an enhanced background check.

Physical Demands:
  • Must be comfortable working at heights, climbing scaffolding, ladders, and potentially wind turbines.
  • Physical endurance to work in varied environmental conditions (extreme heat/cold, outdoor, industrial settings).
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment as needed, sometimes in challenging conditions.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience in quality control, calibration, or technical labor is highly beneficial.
  • Any prior radioactive material handling experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with micrometers, layout equipment, or any manufacturing or industrial experience would be advantageous.
