Fire Protection Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary
Black & Veatch is seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Engineer to support projects across industries, including Power Plants, Oil & Gas processing facilities, Water Treatment Plants, and Data Centers. This role involves evaluating facility and equipment fire protection requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards, and managing fire protection requirements for assigned projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and apply relevant state and local codes and standards (IBC, IFC, NFPA, etc.).
- Communicate fire protection requirements effectively to internal and external clients.
- Develop code and hazard analysis review documents, fire protection specifications, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and hydraulic calculations.
- Review sprinkler and alarm system designs for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with city and local officials, securing variances as needed.
- Uphold Black & Veatch's quality and safety policies.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and policies.
Must-Have Requirements
- Industrial design experience and extensive understanding of Fire Protection codes.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program in the U.S.
- Experience: Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering.
- Certification: Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and be actively pursuing or holding a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Power Plants, Oil & Gas processing facilities, Water Treatment Plants, or Data Centers.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to manage projects proactively.
- Knowledge of engineering design principles, quality programs, construction practices, and procurement/contract administration.
- Ability to manage schedules, prioritize tasks, and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Customer-focused with strong problem-solving abilities.
