Mechanical Engineer IV

Contract Duration: Contract through 01/04/2027 (High potential for extension)

Location: Duluth, MN (Preferred) or Houston, TX

Work Arrangement: Hybrid –Onsite Monday, Tuesday, Thursday

Travel: ~20% (primarily Texas & North Dakota project sites)

Department: Liquids Business Unit (Oil & Facilities Design)

 

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer IV will support the company’s liquids business, leading engineering activities for oil-related facility projects including liquid pump stations, meter runs, and associated infrastructure. This role is responsible for overseeing detailed design performed by third-party engineering consultants and driving projects from initiation through closeout. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in pump station design, liquids handling, and terminal or storage tank facilities, along with a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

 

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead engineer for multiple (4–5) concurrent liquids infrastructure projects, each typically ranging $30M–$40M in value.
  • Oversee and manage third-party engineering consultants, ensuring quality, technical accuracy, and adherence to project objectives.
  • Support full project lifecycle—from concept development and scope definition to detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Develop and review piping layout design, pump station configurations, and facility engineering deliverables.
  • Specify pumps and mechanical equipment, ensuring alignment with liquids handling requirements (ranging from ~2, 000 to 6, 000 horsepower).
  • Collaborate closely with key internal stakeholders, including Project Management, Construction, Supply Chain, Land/Right-of-Way, and Environmental teams.
  • Monitor contractor performance, schedules, and budgets to ensure projects stay on target.
  • Support design activities related to storage tanks, terminals, and related infrastructure.
  • Provide engineering support for U.S.-based liquids projects, primarily in Texas and North Dakota.

 

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in liquids facilities design, including pump stations and pipeline infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of pump systems, equipment specification, and liquid handling fundamentals.
  • Experience reviewing and guiding third-party engineering design work.
  • Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects simultaneously.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience with Bluebeam.
  • Background in LNG, liquid pump stations, terminal design, or storage tank facilities.
  • Prior experience with energy, oil & gas, or midstream infrastructure projects.
