Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join CMS Energy. This role is key to delivering engineering and technical expertise across multiple projects. The Project Engineer will work to plan, establish criteria, and ensure quality control in project execution. As a Lead Project Engineer, you will support project managers, oversee engineering tasks, and ensure timely and accurate delivery of major projects, including substation rebuilds and economic development initiatives within the Electric Distribution business area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Build strong partnerships with business partners, deeply understanding their goals and translating them into actionable project plans.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
- Lead the scheduling, coordination, and monitoring of engineering projects, assigning responsibilities, and mentoring project teams.
- Provide technical support to project managers and other participants, ensuring successful project execution.
- Review engineering deliverables, identifying and initiating corrective actions when necessary.
- Support Agile project delivery cadence by balancing team performance with tight deadlines.
- Develop detailed specifications for required project equipment and materials.
- Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in design and visualization software, particularly AutoCAD.
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, and best practices within the industry.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, with the ability to learn new software quickly.
- Experience in coordinating internal and external engineering disciplines.
- Familiarity with Project Management Information Systems (e.G., Unifier, ProjectWise) is a plus.
- Background in Electric Distribution projects is highly desirable.
- Experience in contract management and engineering contract deliverables.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or an Engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program with a Professional Engineering license.
- 5-7 years of experience as a Project Engineer, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.

- This position is critical to ensuring the accuracy and quality of projects from conception to completion.
- Candidates should have strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor and guide a team of engineers while working within tight deadlines.
