Job Description
Project engineers oversee technical staff on engineering projects within their company, ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget and within project specifications. They coordinate efforts among staff and ensure that effective communication exists among the various divisions or staffs involved in projects, as well as ensure resource allocation is effective, efficient and sufficient to complete the project. Project engineers use their expertise as an engineer throughout their work, and they may be the customer's technical point of contact as well. These engineers typically work alongside other engineers in an office setting, with regular travel to project sites potentially needed as well. These professionals generally work during regular business hours, although additional and/or alternative hours may be required depending on project deadlines and the needs of the business
The Project Engineer will also provide project management oversight for Compression Site Managed projects. Precisely define the scope of the project;prepare the project schedule, and update the schedule as it evolves;propose the project budget, and then manage the project so that it doesn't cause cost overruns;ensure the project team has the supplies and human resources necessary to get the project completed on time and on budget;identify and minimize potential risks to the project timeline and budget;ensure all project team members understand what their responsibilities are;communicate the project's progression to management;and ensure the quality of the team's work and any supplies or materials used by the team. Provide a positive customer interface while addressing project scope, safety, quality, schedule, and cost issues. Direct high quality communication with the customer is very important. Work with the support groups such as scheduling, operations, cost controls, construction, and startup and testing staff to ensure that proper alignments and support occur. Work with Internal Engineering and Engineering firms to ensure high quality and timely support occurs on assigned projects. Perform presentations when appropriate. Travel to job locations within Michigan and for department meetings and/or training. Work a flexible schedule that supports the demands and needs of the department and plant. Typical work week is 40-50 hours.
A bachelor's degree in engineering is required;The candidate must know the business of project management and have good project management leadership skills. Previous experience in a related role is required. Project engineers must have a good understanding of project management, financial management and budgeting, as well as have good communication and teamwork skills. Project Management Professional certification is preferred. Highly organized with the ability to actively align the project with the department and Company business needs and goals. Good communication skills including conflict resolution skills. Ability to solve a range of problems quickly utilizing project management methodologies.
