Real Estate Representative I
Contract Duration: Through July 19, 2026 (High potential for extension)
Location: Fully remote with assignment to the nearest service center;field-based work across Ludington (Mason), Baldwin (Lake), Newaygo (Newaygo), Hart (Oceana), and Muskegon (Muskegon).
Work Schedule & Travel: Standard Monday–Friday hours with no set office time;frequent local travel required, with overnight travel reimbursed per policy.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and autonomous Real Estate Representative I to join our team supporting utility infrastructure projects. This role is instrumental in supporting right-of-way (ROW) activities, including researching property records, acquiring easements, and liaising with landowners to facilitate project success. The ideal candidate will possess both strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interpret legal property documents.

Key Responsibilities:
Easement Review & Research:
- Review existing easement documentation within internal systems.
- Perform title research and deed searches to determine land ownership and parcel impact.
- Interpret and map legal descriptions accurately.
- Coordinate with customers and property owners to obtain signed easements.
- Travel to affected parcels to meet property owners in person and negotiate terms.
- Notarize signed easement documents (Notary Public preferred).
- Conduct field visits as needed to knock on doors, build rapport, and ensure timely acquisition.
- Independently schedule and attend meetings with property owners, sometimes during non-standard business hours.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of communications and transactions.
- Interface with internal teams such as engineering, design, and project scheduling.
- Respond to emails, texts, and phone calls from stakeholders as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to read and map legal property descriptions.
- Proficient in title research and deed search processes.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage field-based responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable with travel within the service region.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in utility, real estate, oil & gas, or right-of-way acquisition.
- Notary Public certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Familiarity with GIS or property mapping tools.
Work Conditions & Schedule:
- No fixed office requirement; flexible work environment.
- Occasional use of local Consumer’s Energy service centers for mail pickup or workspace needs.
- Schedule may include occasional evening meetings with landowners based on availability.
- On-site presence as needed within designated counties.
Interview Process:
- 20–30 minute video (Teams) interview.
- Includes a practical test to read and interpret a sample legal description and locate parcels on a map.
- Evaluation will focus on practical skills, communication, and prior experience.
