Real Estate Representative II
Job Type: Contract till July 1, 2026, with high possibility of extension
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (In-office: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday | Remote: Wednesday, Friday)
 
Position Overview:
CMS Energy is seeking a skilled and motivated Real Estate Representative II to join our team in Grand Rapids, MI. This position plays a key role in acquiring land rights and ensuring property access for the construction, operation, and maintenance of energy infrastructure projects.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate with private landowners and governmental agencies to acquire land rights such as fee simple, easements, leases, temporary workspace agreements, licenses, permits, and ordinances.
  • Perform due diligence to ensure accuracy and completeness of land rights documentation;identify and address curative issues.
  • Serve as a liaison with landowners and tenants regarding easement rights, property ownership, damage claims, and access issues.
  • Plan and manage workload effectively, adapt to shifting priorities, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Utilize established company policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy in all work.
  • Represent the company in public meetings with local and regional governmental agencies including municipalities, zoning boards, townships, and county commissions.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
 
Experience:
  • 2–5 years of experience in the Right of Way or Real Estate industry
  • Minimum 1 year of direct experience acquiring land rights
 
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Proficiency in interpreting survey drawings, title abstracts, engineering, and construction plans
  • In-depth understanding of settlement instruments and contract terms
  • Strong land title research capabilities
 
Licenses/Certifications: Must possess or be able to obtain a Michigan Notary Public license within 2 months of hire
