Construction Environmental Compliance Specialist - Virtual United States
 
Job Description:
  • Client is looking for environmental compliance professionals to support a wide variety of construction projects across the United States.
  • The Environmental Inspectors will be responsible overseeing the environmental compliance activities of the project, ensuring that projects move forward without impacts to schedule and budget, while in compliance with the applicable plans and regulations.
  • Works in close coordination with field management, construction crews, agency personnel, and client representatives to establish a " culture of compliance" onsite from construction kick-off through closeout.
  • Participates in the development of project-specific Environmental Compliance Plans and Site Environmental Orientation Training and support their implementation and delivery.
  • Manages the implementation of the construction Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plan (SPCC), and other plans/actions necessary to comply with applicable permit requirements and local/state/federal regulations.
  • Oversees the installation/maintenance/removal of Best Management Practices (BMPs), including those that may not be defined on plans but are necessary to prevent discharges of sediment.
  • Conducts SWPPP/SPCC inspections (routine, rain event, etc.) and identifies appropriate corrective actions.
  • Implements corrective actions to any compliance deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Maintains complete records of documentation of environmental compliance including inspection reports, training logs, waste disposal manifests, seeding/stabilization/revegetation records, etc.
  • Communicates project design and process changes in the field to offsite team members to ensure continued compliance
  • Encourages a proactive rather than reactive approach to avoid potential environmental compliance issues that could result in delays to the project schedule or additional costs.
  • Complies with all applicable safety requirements while onsite.
 
Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience focused on environmental compliance.
  • Experience in permitting/compliance with a variety of environmental components including but not limited to stormwater, wetlands, wildlife resources, cultural resources, hazardous materials, noise monitoring, etc.
  • Understanding of environmental regulations and construction methods necessary to execute the project.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to explain requirements, permit conditions, necessary actions, etc. To non-environmental personnel.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and industry standards specific to different industries or regions (FERC projects, working in arid conditions, etc.).
  • Ability to use electronic reporting programs and data gathering tools, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • A record of prior employment documenting that the applicant is organized, motivated, dependable, and good at solving problems in a professional and timely manner
  • Industry certifications (CESSWI, CPESC, state-specific training programs, etc.) are a plus.
 
Education:
  • Bachelor’ s degree in engineering or professional degree in sciences in area of expertise preferred with specialized training, or experience that uniquely qualifies the individual to perform the job responsibilities.
  • A minimum total of 3 years of related work experience is typically necessary to move into this level.
  • Graduate work may count as related work experience if directly applicable to job function.
